Hey Lizah, I thought I would ehhhh give some comments on the options you state hahas. Hope you don't mind and that please just take my comments as a pinch of salt ^^
Hmm, you can choose to retain if you are very confident that you would be able do well for A's again. Are you still okay with studying, as in mugging? ('cause I can't mug, oops x.x) Anyway, doing A's again sound a bit risky, that's what I think -> This is my merely my opinion, do heck care this if you are determined to retake again, lol.
As for polytechnic or private uni, the end 'result' is quite different, one would be a diploma, the latter would be a degree. If you want to count the money factor in, poly would be cheaper. And from what I think, going to a poly would be less 'risky'. If you *TOUCHWOOD x100000* are not interested in the diploma that you are taking, you can pursue another degree. But you are taking a degree, and that you feel that you don't like/whatever reasons, you can drop out and take another degree but the thing is now: fees from your previous sems + new sem for new degree. Plus uni fees are ex D: So yeah.
Oh btw, if you want to choose the poly route, I think you have to be fast since the new intake may be ending soon (poly starts school around the end of April). Anyway, wish you good luck in applying the degree/diploma that you want (:
AND AH! Xinyi, congrats! :D Good luck in applying into NUS! Btw I think you should send your applications to all local universities so you would have the choice to choose later on hahas. Good luck! (:
